A Journal for Model Organization of American States Participants, Past and Present

Dialogues of the Americas (DA) is a biannual journal dedicated to showcasing the work of students and faculty in the Washington Model Organization of American States (WMOAS) and similar simulations offered by the OAS in Latin America and the Caribbean (MOEA).  Sponsored by the Institute for Diplomatic Dialogue in the Americas (IDDA), DA will serve as a resource for WMOAS and MOEA participants, as a venue for discussion and reflection on the experience, an outlet for undergraduate research on OAS-related topics, and faculty research on pedagogy of the Model experience and course preparation.

The DA invites the following submissions:

  • News and Announcements (400-600 words): Noteworthy developments in the OAS, IDDA, WMOAS, and MOEA.
  • Profiles (1-3 thousand words): WMOAS students and faculty may submit brief articles based on interviews highlighting an OAS person or program or any international organization or non-governmental organization that addresses Latin American or Caribbean issues.
  • Delegate Reflections (1-3 thousand words): Student participants submit brief essays that reflect on some particular aspect of their WMOAS experience, either in the simulation, or encounters with delegates from other regions or countries, or the time in the site of the WMOAS or MOEA.
  • Embassy Visits (1-3 thousand words): Student participants submit brief essays describing their mission visit.
  • Book Reviews (1-3 thousand words): Faculty and student participants submit brief reviews of scholarly articles or books on substantive or theoretical topics related to the OAS.
  • Country Policy Positions (2-4 thousand words): Student participants submit reports describing and explaining their country’s position on a particular WMOAS agenda topic.
  • Teaching and Learning (8-10 thousand words, peer-reviewed): Faculty participants submit articles addressing pedagogical theories and best practices related to WMOAS, simulations, alternative teaching techniques, and issues related to the preparation for the WMOAS or MOEA.
  • Faculty-Student Collaborative Research (8-10 thousand words, peer reviewed): Faculty and student participants submit collaborative work on substantive or theoretical topics related to the OAS and interstate relations in the Western Hemisphere.

We encourage authors writing in reference to the WMOAS to submit for the Fall-Winter issue, the deadline of which is the first Monday of August, and published on a rolling basis until the second Friday in September.  We invite authors writing in reference to the MOEA to submit for the Spring-Summer issue, the deadline of which is the first Monday in December, and published on a rolling basis until the second Friday in January.  However, submissions that are not focused on either Model (for example, book reviews, teaching and learning, collaborative research) may be submitted to either the Fall-Winter or Spring-Summer issue.

Submissions shall be sent electronically as Word documents and may be in either English or Spanish.  APA Style required. To submit, please visit this site and click on “Submit Article.”
